Just when you thought the cast of Big Little Lies couldn’t get any bigger, they went out and got one of the biggest stars in the history of cinema, Meryl Streep.
The announcement comes on the heels of Streep’s 21st Academy Award nomination for her role in the newspaper drama The Post. In case you were wondering, no one has ever been nominated more, and the actress has previously won 3 statues.
Big Little Lies has been a huge hit for HBO, winning Emmy, Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild awards for best series. The series stars Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, Laura Dern, Alexander Skarsgard, Shailene Woodley and Zoë Kravitz. Kidman, Dern and Skarsgard have all won multiple trophies for the show as well.
In a statement released by HBO, it was said that Streep will play Mary Louise Wright, mother-in-law to Kidman’s character, Celeste. She comes to town seeking answers about her son Perry’s (Skarsgard) death.
Both Kidman and Witherspoon produce the series, and drawing Streep into the fold will only help the series gain even more of a spotlight. As of the moment no air date has been set, nor has there been any indication that production has begun.
